- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 T unsalted butter, room temperature, creamed
- 1 egg
- 3 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Castor sugar (very fine sugar, I put regular sugar in my food processor)
- 1 t salt
- 1 T instant yeast
- 1 egg yolk (+1 T water)
- sesame seeds (optional)
Directions: Sprinkle the yeast into the water and leave for 5-10 minutes, until frothy. Stir to dissolve. Add remaining ingredients and mix well(I do this in my kitchen-aid). I let this knead in my Kitchen-Aid for ~10 minutes, until it is a soft, smooth dough. You could knead by hand on a lightly floured surface. I leave it in my mixer bowl, cover and let rise for 1 - 1 1/2 hour, until doubled in size. Divide dough into 8 pieces and shape into a flattened ball. Place the buns on a greased baking sheet, cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes until puffy and doubled in size. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Glaze the buns with egg yolk and water mixture(my helper likes to do this:)), then sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Bake the buns for 12 - 15 minutes, until golden brown. Remove them from the oven and cool them on a wire rack.
*I didn't make 'flattened balls' this last time, so they are a little tall, but still SO yummy!!
Yummy goodness!!! I don't think I've ever had a homemade hamburger bun before. I guess I'm gonna have to be real nice to my husband now - since he's the doughboy in our house!!!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH, forget the burger, give me your bun and some butter! These look amazing! BRAVO!!!

Yummy!
ReplyDeleteWow--these look really good! And it looks like you have a cute little helper! Your site is great--I am so glad I found it!
ReplyDeleteI was looking around for a homemade hamburger bun recipe and, of course, came across this one.
ReplyDeleteHOLY CRAP THESE ARE GOOD.
I couldn't help but to eat one with butter and neither could the man! (after gorging on 2 hamburgers while moaning...a lot) I had hoped to have a few leftover but, alas, we ate the whole batch!
These can definitely make GREAT dinner rolls too!
I'm now off to sit in the corner and complain about being so full...
damn burger buns...
Those look so good and I am going to try this recipe out very soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks!

I made these last night, and they were so amazing! I have reserved half the dough for Brat buns tonight.
ReplyDeleteQuick, what do you cover them with when you let them rise from their "egg shape"?? Whenever I do this with a tea towel, they stick and fall when I remove the tea towel. I hav sixteen minutes to solve this dilemma! lol
ReplyDeletefyi I don't use a terry tea towel, but one with no "teeth" so to speak...
cuddlz24, I usually spray a piece of plastic wrap with cooking spray, cover the buns with the plastic wrap(sprayed side down) and then put the tea towel over that. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy, you're a gem! It worked!
